All applicants applying for nonimmigrant visas in Canada must use the new DS-160 application form.
After completing the new DS-160, the applicant will electronically submit the application and will be provided with a confirmation page that includes only limited biographical information and a bar code. Applicants must bring this confirmation page with them to their interview.
The DS160 visa application must be completed a minimum of three business days before your scheduled appointment. Failure to comply will result in a delay of your interview and your appointment will be re-scheduled for a later date.
Note: If the online application has not been completed fully and properly the applicant's case cannot be processed and a new interview appointment will be required.
Visa Application Forms
* Evidence of landed immigrant or any other legal status in Canada.
* Visa application DS-160, fully completed online, printed and signed. One separate DS-160 must be submitted by each visa applicant, regardless of age or gender, even if applicants share a single passport.
* Bank receipt for payment of Visa Application Fee by each visa application, regardless of age or gender, even if applicants share a single passport unless traveling on diplomatic passports. Must be paid at any branch of Scotia Bank within Canada in advance of visa appointment. See below for instructions.
* Passport valid for travel to the U.S. The passport must have an expiration date at least 6 months beyond the intended duration of the visit.
* One current (less than 6 months old) photo of each visa applicant, regardless of age or gender, even if applicants share a single passport, 50mm x 50mm (2 inches x 2 inches), full face, without head covering, against a white background, see Detailed Visa Photo Requirements.
* All documents not in the English language must be accompanied by a printed English translation, signed and dated by the translator.
* Visa applicants must bring a pre-paid XpressPost envelope with them to the interview. These envelopes are bought from Canada Post and are not available for purchase at the Embassy.
* ETA 9035 or Form ETA 9035E (forms that your employer received on your behalf from the U.S. Department of Labor)
* Documents supporting your academic credentials (educational documents), and proof that you do not intend to illegally immigrate to the United States before a visa interview can be scheduled.
There is no same day issuance of visas. While most visas are ready within two days following the interview, all eligible visa applicants must be prepared for processing to take from several workdays to several weeks or more before receiving their visas.
Payment of the Visa Application Fee
All U.S. Consulates in Canada require that visa fee payments be deposited to any branch of Scotia Bank in advance of the appointment. Bring two copies of your stamped deposit slip - the bank will retain the third copy. Detailed instructions appear on the page for each of the U.S. Consulates and at the following link: http://www.consular.canada.usembassy.gov/visa_fees_canada.asp.
Return of Passports and Visas by Mail
Visa applicants must bring a pre-paid XpressPost envelope with them to the interview. These envelopes are bought from Canada Post and are not available for purchase at the Embassy. Visas are generally delivered within 5-7 business days of the interview.
